Raffia Coasters/Bowl Weaving Adult Art Class
Please join us for our May Adult Craft Class! We will be making woven Raffia coasters, or a small bowl. The classes will be held downstairs in the Community Room; please enter from the Green Street Entrance. All the supplies are provided and each person will be taking home one coaster or one bowl. The classes will be held at 5:30pm on May 23rd and May 30th. Classes fill quickly, so please register ASAP using the link below.
Alzheimer's Disease and Brain Health
The library will be hosting a guest speaker from the Alzheimer's Association on Saturday, June 1st at 1pm. This program is free and all adults are welcome, whether you have a loved one who suffers from Alzheimer's Disease or you are simply curious about this disease and what you can do to reduce your risk. Participants will learn the basics of Alzheimer's Disease, what services and treatments are available, and how they can take action. The program will take place in the library's Community Room, which is accessible through the Green St. entrance. Flipping the Script on Negative Thinking (Rescheduled)
Are you tired of all the negativity in your news feed? What if you could "flip" those negative thoughts and get a new outlook on life? The library invites you to join Karen Holcomb, L.S.W. for a discussion on how to process negative thoughts in order to live a happier, healthier life. The program will take place at 1pm on Saturday, June 15th and all adult patrons are welcome to attend. This program will take place in the library's Community Room, which is accessible through the Green St entrance. On Tuesday, May 21st from 1-2pm, learn about savings, budgeting, and opening a bank account at our Money Matters Program. We will present this program in varied formats for different age groups. May- Storytime in the Park
Join the Hazleton Area Public Library for a special storytime at Community Park at 37 Pecora Blvd, Hazleton, PA 18202. This program will be geared towards kids ages 2 to 5 but is open to anyone. A parent or adult caregiver must accompany all children. Storytime will meet on Thursdays in May, rain or shine, from 1 to 1:45 pm. No registration is required.
May STEAM - Building Challenge
Kids in grades 4 to 8 are invited to participate in a STEAM program on Monday, May 13th, from 6 to 7 pm, where they will focus on a building challenge. Kids will be given the chance to create a free-standing arch using take-out containers. Registration is required and begins on May 6th. May LEGO Night
On Tuesday, May 14 (6-7pm), we invite students in grades 1st-5th to join us as we attempt a building challenge. After the challenge, the kids will have time to build whatever they wish. The library provides the LEGOS, and all creations stay here. Registration is required and begins on May 6th. Please call the Children's Department at 570-454-2961 to register.
Star Wars STEM
On Saturday, May 18th from 1-3pm, we’ll be having a fun Star Wars afternoon filled with different STEM activities. Join us for Sphero pod races, Ozobot droid coding, paper circuit lightsaber drawings, and an Ewok scavenger hunt! You’ll also have a chance to get your picture taken with some Star Wars characters, so make sure to have your camera ready. This ia an all ages family program, and registration is not required.
Flower Painting for Kids
On Tuesday, May 21st from 6-7pm, kids in grades 1st-5th are invited to join us for a fun art project. We’ll be making flower paintings using cotton swabs. Please register by calling the library at 570-454-2961 starting May 13th. Make sure to dress for mess!
Smokey Bear Reading Challenge
Want to help us celebrate Smokey Bear’s 80th birthday with a reading challenge? Visit the Children’s Department or one of our branch libraries to register. Children who complete the challenge will receive a certificate. This program is geared towards children ages 4-10, but it’s open to all ages. The challenge runs until November 28, 2024.
